The rumor that we, in our sleep, eat an average of six spiders per year is one of those urban legends that drives arachnologists crazy. Unless you routinely have bugs in there first, why would they crawl into our mouths?

Cattle Crushes.. Thats just disgusting, although you’re right about this! I have heard some place that we actually eats like 6 spiders per year in our sleep

It’s a bit disconcerting to sometimes find a spidey in the bathroom sink, so I can only imagine what it was like to see a tarantula lumbering down the hall at work. So glad to hear this story has a happy ending.

You never know though …. small bugs DO sometimes like to crawl into ears (had it happen myself – not nice), and then when the bug is spied by the spider…well you get the picture!

Hi Jess, I’m sure that is a scary fear to have. But let me try to help by offering this tidbit about spiders: they don’t have a reason to climb into your ears. They like places where they can catch food – bugs – and our ears aren’t a good place for that. Plus there’s the ear wax, and since spiders taste with their feet, well, ear wax being kind of icky….

You forgot one. My fear of spiders (as with all small creatures that skink about at night), is that they often are small enough to fit in my ears and I sleep like a log. Therefore, likely not to notice one crawling nearby. *shiver*
